Subject

To help you find the images that most interest you, they are organised in various subject categories, reflecting the main emphasis of the picture. There may be ambiguities, where a Landscape has hills or mountains in the background and may have buildings or village scenes in the foreground; the Water category includes inland lakes, rivers and waterfalls, whereas Sea and Coastal has beaches, cliffs, bays and islands. The main distinction between Mountains and the High Alps is not only the altitude, typically around 4000 meters and above, but also the glaciers, snow and ice that are such a feature of the alpine scene.
